Kailyn Lowry Apologizes For Controversial Comment, Insists She's Not Racist

Reality star Kailyn Lowry is apologizing for a comment in the previews for this week’s Teen Mom 2 Season 5 Episode 25 that many felt was racist.

Lowry, 22 apparently told baby daddy Jo Rivera, 21, that “little white boys don’t get their hair cut like that,” in regard to their four-year-old son Isaac.

Rivera is of Puerto Rican descent, while Kailyn is Caucasian.

Many eyebrows were raised by Kailyn Lowry’s racist comment when it first hit the web, and that didn’t seem to faze her in the slightest at first.

“Bahahahahahaha ok, im not racist,” she tweeted immediately after, seemingly blaming he comment on MTV editing and adding, “Gotta make good tv somehow!”

Sure, the network wants you to watch TV online, but those are her words. She likely meant no ill will, but it’s hard to pin that on MTV, and she knows it.

Now, the mom of Isaac and 10-month-old Lincoln (with husband Javi Marroquin, whose ethnic roots are also Latin-American) is apologizing for real.

“I already know what I said was wrong,” Lowry wrote on Twitter, “it completely came out the wrong way too. This is weighing heavy on me. Trust that….”

“I just brought race into it, which had nothing to do with it,” she added in her mea culpa. “I couldn’t articulate what I was trying to say properly.”

Somewhat amazingly, Kailyn has enjoyed a lot of support on Twitter.

Fans and co-stars alike rushing to her defense amid the controversy, especially after the reality star’s sincere apology for her poor word choice.

“Those of us who aren’t looking for fault in you absolutely know that,” said one follower of Lowry online, with plenty of others getting her back as well.

“The pot stirrers jump on stuff like this,” added another, summing it up.

Jenelle Evans offered her opinion that Kailyn meant no offense and supported her co-star, while hubby Marroquin stepped in to defend her too.

“My bae is not racist,” he tweeted this weekend. “Move on.”

As for the recent Kailyn Lowry breastfeeding flap, she’s also shaking that off, although she had nothing to apologize for in that particular case.
